Our client wanted an easy care space where the family could enjoy their garden. They love plants and wanted to be able to include as many of their favourites as possible. However, their biggest bugbear was mowing the lawn….and finding somewhere to store the lawnmower. Privacy is also an issue in this garden. As you can see from the images, neighbouring properties can see into the garden from their upstairs windows.
Tapestry Design Studios from Colchester did a great job of interpreting the client brief and designing an easy care garden with plenty of privacy and lots of room for colourful plants.
The budget for this garden didn’t allow for a complex design or super-expensive landscaping materials. Nevertheless Katie from Tapestry Design Studios has created a stylish easy care garden using good quality materials.
The double doors from the living space open out onto a neat gravel patio which spans the width of the building and leads to the back gate.
A central lawn area, created using artificial grass, is surrounded by planting beds. In the middle of the lawn is a circular area in the same gravel as the patio. Our client has added a selection of pots and planters to create a focal point.
From the lawn, a curvaceous metal arch, guides visitors towards a generous sized seating area at the bottom of the garden. The position is perfect for catching the evening sun, and almost invisible from neighbouring properties. Again, Katie has specified a gravel surface and has enveloped the space in planting.
Landscaping with straight lines is an absolute joy. Our team love precision work and couldn’t wait to get started on this project. Fortunately, the weather was kind to us….and the clients were lovely.
We began by clearing and levelling he garden. Then Paul marked out the different garden zones and we began preparing the sub base for patios and artificial grass.
Installing artificial grass is classed as hard landscaping, even though the surface feels soft to walk on, the landscapers have created quite a complex buildup beneath to allow for drainage and to prevent the fabric rucking up or ripping.
Metal edgings were carefully place. These not only look neat, they stop different materials from mixing over time. Which means that the design stays sharp without needing lots of work to keep it that way.
For extra privacy, we planted trees along the boundary. Our clients are looking forward to adding their own plants, and we’re looking forward to seeing the garden in bloom.
As you can see, this easy care back garden in Colchester looks neat and tidy. I can picture our clients sitting on the back patio surrounded by their favourite plants. Artificial grass is not to everyone’s taste, but in this instance it is the perfect medium. Without having to worry about lawn care, our clients can focus on the planting and on enjoying their garden.
