Modern landscaping is a very diverse industry requiring many varied skills and disciplines. It’s exponents must understand the nature and techniques involved in using both inert and living materials. To become a member of The Association of Professional Landscapers, a company must pass a stringent vetting procedure.
To ensure a company remains a credit to the Association, random re-vetting takes place.
Companies must carry insurance cover, and operate a well trained and organised staff.

APL UPDATE: Trust Mark Approves Association of Professional Landscapers.

The Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) has become the first landscape trade association to be approved as a Scheme Operator for the Trust Mark scheme. Trust Mark is an initiative between Government, consumer groups and industry designed to protect consumers from rogue traders and help people find reputable firms to do repair, maintenance and improvement work in the home or garden.

In order to become a Buy With Confidence member, a business must first apply or be recommended to join the scheme and must then pass a set of tailored background checks. Membership of the scheme is not given lightly – amongst other checks, each applicant will have their complaints history reviewed and will receive a visit from Trading Standards. Good references are required from previous customers and applicants must agree to abide by the scheme’s code of conduct, which requires them to follow the letter and spirit of the law. Criminal records disclosure may also be required in some circumstances.
