In the second group of photos you can see that the main terrace area has been excavated, a sub base has been laid and the footings have been excavated for the surrounding retaining wall. As you can see from the third and fourth photos the side of the house has now been totally cleared of all trees and there is a lot more light entering the garden, even on a dull day.
